Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons melted ghee or butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

    Step 1
  • In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Make a well in the center.

  • Pour the yeast mixture, yogurt, and melted ghee into the well. Mix the ingredients to form a dough.

  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.

  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  • Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

  • Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

  • If desired, sprinkle minced garlic and cilantro leaves on top of the naan.
