Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 20 small round or oval flatbreads (you can use store-bought pizza dough if you prefer)

Instructions:

    Step 1
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Step 2
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic, and sauté until they become translucent.
  • Step 3
  • Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until it's browned and crumbly. Make sure to break up any clumps.
  • Step 4
  • Stir in the diced tomato, tomato paste, cumin, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes until the mixture is well combined and the tomatoes are softened.
  • Step 5
  • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the lemon juice. Let the meat filling cool slightly.
  • Step 6
  • Take each flatbread and place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center. Fold the edges to create a small oval-shaped pie, leaving some of the filling exposed in the center.
  • Step 7
  • Place the sfihas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  • Step 8
  • Once done, remove the sfihas from the oven, and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
