Wash glutinous rice and soak in water for 2 hours.
Drain the rice and mix it with coconut milk, water, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
Cut banana leaves into squares and briefly heat over an open flame to soften.
Spoon a portion of the rice mixture onto a banana leaf square and fold it into a packet.
Steam the packets for 30-35 minutes until the rice is cooked and sticky.
Serve warm.
(Sikwate):
Dissolve cocoa powder in hot water to make a thick chocolate paste.
In a pot, heat the remaining 1/2 cup of water and milk (if using) until hot but not boiling.
Mix the chocolate paste into the hot liquid and whisk until smooth.
Serve the hot chocolate alongside the Puto Maya for dipping.
