    Step 1
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until they are light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Step 3
  • Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt into the egg mixture, and gently fold them in.
  • Step 4
  • Warm the milk, and gradually add it to the batter, continuing to fold until smooth.
  • Step 5
  • Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched.
  • Step 6
  • While the cake is still warm, roll it with a clean kitchen towel and let it cool completely.
  • Step 7
  • Whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form.
  • Step 8
  • Carefully unroll the cake and spread the whipped cream evenly over the surface.
  • Step 9
  • Roll the cake back up without the towel and place it seam-side down on a serving platter.
  • Step 10
  • In a saucepan, heat the cream until it simmers, then pour it over the chopped dark chocolate and butter. Stir until smooth.
  • Step 11
  • Pour the chocolate frosting over the Yule Log, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  • Step 12
  • Use a fork to create a bark-like texture on the frosting.
  • Step 13
  • Refrigerate the Yule Log for at least an hour before serving. Dust with powdered sugar for a snowy effect if desired.
  • Step 14
  • Slice and enjoy your homemade Bûche de Noël!
