Recipe of Banana shake

The mechada de plátano is a vegan and surprising recipe that transforms banana peels into a texture similar to shredded meat. Originating from zero-waste cooking, this preparation is ideal for those seeking healthy, economical, and flavorful alternatives. With simple ingredients like banana peels, onion, carrot, bell peppers, and soy sauce, you get a versatile dish that can be served as a filling for arepas, tacos, or as a side dish.

The key is to shred the peels with a fork to get thin strands, which are then marinated with soy sauce and spices, and sautéed with vegetables. The result is a juicy preparation with a smoky touch (if you use liquid smoke) and a deep flavor reminiscent of traditional shredded meat.

Perfect for vegans, vegetarians, or simply for those looking to reduce meat consumption, this recipe is easy to make and adapts to the ingredients you have at home. Dare to try this creative and sustainable version that will win everyone over at the table.

Directions

  1. 1

The first thing is to wash the banana peels and remove any remaining banana peels.

  2. 2

Tear the shell with the fork so that they are in thin strips, they can also be cut with a knife but it's easier with the fork

  3. 3

Then put the strips on a plate with a little soy sauce, liquid smoke, salt and dressings (in my case I put merkén and garlic powder, pepper is recommended) and let it rest

  4. 4

While it is resting, cut the vegetables, you can add others if you want.

  5. 5

Then put all the vegetables to sauté in a pan with garlic and oil, add dressing (I used cumin and full dressing) stir a little and also add the banana peels so that it can be sautéed and cooked all together.

  6. 6

Stir and it will be finished when the vegetables are cooked, about 10 minutes and that's it!
