Ingredients

  • 1 cup of split peas
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 red bell pepper
  • 250 grs ground beef
  • 250 g sausage
  • 1/2 tomato
  • 1/2 cup vegetable assortment
  • 1 1/2 meat broth (tablets)
  • Black Pepper
  • Basil
  • Oregano
  • Rice

Instructions:

    Step 1
  • Wash the peas and let them soak in a deep well with cold water the night before preparation. If you forget this step (just like me) let them soak with boiling water for 1 or 2 hours before cooking them.
  • Step 2
  • In a pot with oil, sauté the finely chopped onion, garlic and chopped paprika until the onion is semi-transparent.
  • Step 3
  • Add the ground beef and stir over medium heat until cooked, then add the sausage and stir until it releases its juice.
  • Step 4
  • Add the tomato, diced in small cubes, until the flavors are well integrated.
  • Step 5
  • When the tomato is soft and everything is well cooked, add the assortment of vegetables and the split peas. At this point add the meat broths, oregano, basil and pepper to taste, stir.
  • Step 6
  • Add boiling water to the root and cook over medium heat for 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Step 7
  • When the peas are cooked, add rice to taste and add salt or pepper if necessary. Cook 15 to 20 minutes.
