Recipe of Croque-Monsieur

Ingredients

• 8 slices of sandwich bread
• 8 slices of cooked ham
• 8 slices of Gruyère cheese
• 50 g of butter
• 2 tablespoons of flour
• 250 ml of hot milk
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Grated nutmeg to taste

Directions

   Preheat the oven to 200°C.

   In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

   Add the flour and mix well.

   Gradually add the hot milk, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.

   Remove from heat and add salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste.

   Lightly toast the bread slices.

   Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each bread slice.

   Cover with another bread slice to form a sandwich.

   Place the sandwiches on a baking tray and cover with the béchamel sauce.

    Bake for 5-10 minutes or until the cheese melts and the sandwich is golden.
