Instructions:
Step 1
In a mixing bowl, coat the pork pieces with cornstarch until they are evenly coated.
Step 2
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the pork pieces until they are golden and crispy, then remove them from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 3
In a separate pan, combine the ketchup, vinegar, sugar, water, and soy sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for a few minutes.
Step 4
Stir in the slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) to thicken the sauce. Continue to cook until the sauce reaches the desired thickness.
Step 5
In the same pan, add the bell peppers and pineapple chunks. Cook for a few minutes until they are slightly tender.
Step 6
Return the crispy pork to the pan, pour the sweet and sour sauce over it, and stir to coat.
Step 7
Cook for a few more minutes to heat everything through and ensure the flavors meld.
Step 8
Serve your delicious 咕嚕肉 (Sweet and Sour Pork) hot with steamed rice. Enjoy your homemade Cantonese favorite!
