Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

In a pot, heat the sugar over medium heat until it melts and caramelizes. Pour the caramel into a flan mold and make sure to cover the bottom.

In a bowl, mix the coconut milk, condensed milk, eggs, vanilla essence, and shredded coconut. Beat everything until it forms a homogeneous mixture.

Pour the mixture into the caramelized flan mold.

Place the mold inside a larger container and fill it halfway with water. This is called a water bath.
