Recipe of Ham broth

Vida Recetas Editorial

Ham broth is a traditional preparation of Spanish cuisine that makes the most of the ham bone and ham tip to obtain a flavorful and nutritious liquid. This broth is the perfect base for soups, rice dishes, stews, and other recipes, as it adds a deep, smoky flavor. It is simple and economical to make, ideal for using up leftover ham and vegetables.

The recipe involves browning the ham bone and tip with vegetables such as carrot, leek, and turnip, then simmering everything in water for two hours. The result is a golden, aromatic broth that can be used immediately or stored in the fridge for later. By letting it rest overnight, a layer of fat forms on the surface that is easily removed, resulting in a lighter, cleaner broth.

This broth is perfect for those looking for a tasty base without much effort, and it can be customized by adding herbs or spices to taste. It is great for preparing a comforting soup, cooking pasta, or flavoring legumes. Undoubtedly, a staple that should not be missing from your culinary repertoire.

We group all the ingredients together. Peel the turnips and carrots. We cleaned the leek and kept the white part.

  2. 2

Put a large pot on the fire with a generous splash of oil and when it is hot, add the ham bone and the tip of the ham and sauté for a couple of minutes over medium-high heat. Add the leek, carrots and turnip and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Add 2 liters of water and half a teaspoon of salt. Let everything be done together on a medium-slow fire for 2 hours.

  4. 4

After that time, we removed from the fire. Take out the vegetables, the bone and the tip of the ham and strain the broth. We take our broth to the fridge, when it's cold and let it sit all night. The next day we removed the fat layer.
