How to Make Fried Mussels
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become translucent.
- Pour in the white wine and let it simmer for a couple of minutes to cook off the alcohol.
- Add the chicken or vegetable broth, bay leaf, and fresh thyme to the pot. Season with salt and black pepper. Bring the broth to a gentle simmer.
- Add the cleaned mussels to the simmering broth. Cover the pot and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that remain closed.
- While the mussels are cooking, heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (180°C).
- Fry the potato fries in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels. Season with salt immediately.
- Serve the steamed mussels in bowls, along with a side of crispy fries. Enjoy your Moules Frites with some mayonnaise or aioli on the side for dipping!
