How to Make Challah

  • Mix the flour with the sugar, salt and baking powder.

  • Add the egg, oil and water

  • Sprinkle the counter with a little flour and start kneading for 15 minutes.

  • Let the dough rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size. Depending on the weather or season, these times may vary.

  • Put a layer of flour back on the counter and knead again.

  • Cut the dough into rolls.

  • Divide the dough into 4 parts and each part into 2. Roll each roll (8) into braids (long tubes that are chubby in the center than at the ends).

  • Make a braid by joining 4 tubes together.

  • Let the two braids of bread rise for 1 hour.

  • Paint the two loaves with an egg.
  • Step 12
  • Bake it for 30 to 40 to 200º. It should brown, but not burn.
