How to Make Nanaimo Bars

- In a medium bowl, combine the melted 1/2 cup of butter, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
- Mix in graham cracker crumbs, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9x9-inch square baking pan.
- In another bowl, beat together the softened 1/2 cup of butter, powdered sugar, custard powder, and milk until smooth. Spread this custard layer evenly over the crumb crust.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and 2 tablespoons of butter in 20-second intervals, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the custard layer, spreading it to cover the entire surface.
- Refrigerate the bars for at least 2 hours or until set.
