How to Make Finnish Christmas tarts

Instructions

    Step 1
  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 12 even squares.
  • Step 3
  • In the center of each square, place a teaspoon of plum jam.
  • Step 4
  • To create the iconic star shape, make diagonal cuts from each corner of the square, stopping just short of the jam.
  • Step 5
  • Fold every other corner of the square towards the center, slightly overlapping the jam.
  • Step 6
  • Beat the egg and brush it over the pastries for a golden finish.
  • Step 7
  • Place the tarts on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until they are beautifully golden and puffed.
  • Step 8
  • Let the tarts cool slightly, and then dust them with powdered sugar.
  • Step 9
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream and enjoy your homemade Joulutorttu. Hyvää joulua! (Merry Christmas!)
