How to Make Roast Turkey with Stuffing
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, chopped sage, rosemary, thyme, and season with salt and pepper. This will be the herb butter for the turkey.
- Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey, and pat it dry with paper towels.
- Carefully separate the skin from the turkey breast and legs, being gentle to not tear the skin.
- Spread the herb butter under the skin, making sure to coat the turkey meat evenly. Season the outside of the turkey with more salt and pepper.
- In a large roasting pan, place the chopped onion, celery, and carrots. Set the turkey on top of the vegetables.
- In a separate bowl, combine the cubed stale bread, poultry seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Stuff the turkey cavity with the bread mixture, and truss the legs together with kitchen twine.
- Pour the chicken or turkey broth into the bottom of the roasting pan.
- Cover the turkey with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 3.5 to 4 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the pan juices.
- Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of roasting to allow the skin to brown.
- The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh registers 165°F (74°C). Make sure the stuffing reaches the same temperature.
- Once done, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for about 30 minutes before carving.
- Serve the roast turkey with the delicious stuffing and your favorite Thanksgiving sides. Enjoy!
