How to Make Beignets
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, heat the milk in the microwave until warm, then add it to the yeast mixture along with the egg and salt. Stir well.
- Gradually add the flour and softened butter to the mixture. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut it into 2-inch squares.
- Carefully drop a few beignets at a time into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Dust the warm beignets generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve your homemade beignets fresh and enjoy!
- Tip: Be sure to serve them while they are still warm for the best experience!
