For a dessert, it's not as high in calories, making it perfect for tea time. It is a dessert native to Spain, and its name honors Pope Pius IX. In Chile we know it as “queen's arm”. If you like, you can accompany it with a delicious lemon tea.

How to Make Pionono Dulce

Instructions

    Step 1
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  • Step 2
  • Grease a medium baking sheet.
  • Step 3
  • In a bowl, add the eggs and with the help of a mixer, beat them at maximum speed for 10 minutes.

  • Add the sugar slowly while whisking and continue whisking for 5 more minutes.
  • Step 5
  • Add the lemon zest, salt and vanilla, whisk until well combined.
  • Step 6
  • Then sift the flour over the mixture and with a spatula or wooden remover, mix in an enveloping way.
  • Step 7
  • Add the mixture to the pre-greased tray and place in the oven for 10 minutes.

  • After the minutes have elapsed, check if the cake is ready by inserting the tip of a knife.

  • Remove from the oven and unmold on a damp rag or cloth.

  • Roll the cake with the pastry cutter and let it cool for an hour.
  • Step 11
  • Unroll the cake and cut the edges with a knife and with a spatula spread the delicacy or arequipe evenly over the cake.

  • Roll it up again but without the reamer and place it on a tray.
  • Step 13
  • Garnish with powdered sugar on top and serve.
