How to Make Pastelón

Instructions

    Step 1
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry plantain slices until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  • Step 2
  • In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed and sauté the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in the tomato sauce, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Step 4
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Step 5
  • Place a layer of fried plantains in the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Step 6
  • Spoon half of the seasoned ground beef mixture over the plantains.
  • Step 7
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  • Step 8
  • Repeat the layers: plantains, beef, and cheese.
  • Step 9
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Step 10
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your homemade Dominican Pastelón!
