How to Make Chicken Parmigiana

Instructions

    Step 1
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Step 2
  • Place each chicken breast between plastic wrap or parchment paper and pound them to an even thickness, about 1/2 inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Step 3
  • In separate shallow dishes, place the flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and mix the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese in a third.
  • Step 4
  • Coat each chicken breast first in the flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally, press it into the breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture, making sure it's well coated.
  • Step 5
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken breasts and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until they are golden brown and crispy. You may need to cook in batches.
  • Step 6
  • In a separate saucepan, heat the marinara sauce until it's warmed through.
  • Step 7
  • In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Place the cooked chicken breasts on top.
  • Step 8
  • Spoon more marinara sauce over each chicken breast, and then sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce.
  • Step 9
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the chicken is cooked through.
  • Step 10
  • If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
  • Step 11
  • Serve your Chicken Parmigiana hot, either on its own or overcooked pasta for a classic Italian meal.
