How to Make Khachapuri (Georgian Cheese Bread)
Instructions
- Combine active dry yeast, sugar, and warm milk in a bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Knead until a soft dough forms.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Mix feta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and one beaten egg for the filling.
- Divide the dough into two portions. Roll out each portion into an oval shape.
- Place half of the cheese mixture in the center of each oval. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, creating a boat shape.
- Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the dough.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden.
- Pour melted butter over the top after removing from the oven.
