How to Make Gyro
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the yogurt, minced garlic, olive oil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. This will be your marinade.
- Add the thinly sliced lamb or chicken to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- While the meat is marinating, prepare the tzatziki sauce. You can make it by mixing Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, dill, salt, and pepper. Refrigerate the sauce until serving.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Thread the marinated meat onto skewers for easy grilling.
- Grill the meat for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until it's cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- Warm the pita bread rounds on the grill for about 1 minute on each side.
- Assemble your gyros by placing a pita bread round on a plate. Add a portion of grilled meat and top it with cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, fresh parsley, and crumbled feta cheese (if desired).
- Drizzle tzatziki sauce over the toppings.
- Fold the pita bread over the filling, and secure it with parchment paper or foil.
- Serve your homemade gyros immediately, and enjoy the delicious flavors of Greece!
